Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Attendance, Every Day Counts At Banksia
Parents and caregivers must send children to school every school day under Queensland law unless there is an acceptable reason such as:
- illness
- undertaking work experience
- competing in school sporting events.
If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred within two school days of their return. If possible, it is best to advise the school beforehand.
Avoid keeping your child away from school for reasons such as:
- birthdays
- shopping
- visiting family and friends
- if they sleep in
- looking after other children
- minor check-ups or care, such as hair cuts.
Over the next week we will be sending letters home to some families where student attendance for the term is below 85%. The purpose of the letter is to inform parents of the current student attendance rate. We understand that students may have been away for a period of time due to illness and other legitimate reasons. We still would like to reduce the number of absences that remain unexplained or are not due to illness where possible.
Book Week
I know a lot of students (and Staff) enjoyed dressing up for Book Week on Wednesday. I was great to see students celebrating by dressing up as their favourite characters and having a laugh with the staff that dressed up on the day.
I have enjoyed watching the finals of the reading challenges. The students have done an amazing job! Congratulations to all the students that participated in this year’s event.
Gala Days
Tomorrow is the second Gala Day for our sporty students. Last week saw a number of teams representing Banksia Beach extremely well and displayed amazing sportsmanship and behaviour. Thank you once again to our coaches that take the teams over to Caboolture for the day, it is a great opportunity for our students.
Collaborative Assessment of Student Work
On Monday we will be hosting a number of staff from different schools from our region as well as our Assistant Regional Director and Regional Director for the day.
The main focus of the day is for us at Banksia to showcase the great work that is happening in our classrooms every day around student assessment and students knowing what they are learning and what they need to do to improve.
There will be several classroom visits happening throughout the day, so you may get some reports of ‘new’ people coming to our classroom on Monday afternoon.
