Principal’s Report

Welcome to this edition of our newsletter.

Teaching and Learning Review

This week, Banksia Beach State School has participated in a Teaching and Learning Review. These reviews occur every four years with the last being in 2018. The Teaching and Learning Review is not an audit of financials or an evaluation of school infrastructure etc, but an opportunity to have experts look at our curriculum delivery, pedagogy, support practices and capability building with outside eyes. This process identifies our areas of strength and areas of development and will form the basis for our next four-year strategic plan. When looking at our previous audit findings and subsequent strategic plan, it is easy to see the strong progression and adherence to our improvement agenda and the very pleasing results. In evaluating the teaching and learning in our school, the review team used the 9 domains from the National School Improvement Tool as listed below:

1. An Explicit Improvement Agenda

2. Analysis and Discussion of Data

3. A Culture That Promotes Learning

4. Targeted Use of School Resources

5. An Expert Teaching Team

6. Systematic Curriculum Delivery

7. Differentiated Teaching and Learning

8. Effective Pedagogical Practices

9. School-Community Partnerships.

The findings were shared and celebrated with the staff at a meeting on Wednesday afternoon and these will be communicated to our community in the coming weeks. For our school community the Teaching and Learning review is an opportunity to show case and celebrate the great work our staff do with our students and the high-quality outcomes we achieve.

Infrastructure Projects

Our infrastructure projects are slowly drawing to a conclusion. The last classes will be moved into their new rooms in the next couple of weeks with the removal of the old computer labs and the building of the music block to occur just after that. All work is to be completed by the end of this financial year (the end of this term). We have also had an upgrade to our fire hydrant system which had impacted heavily of parts of our grounds as has the rewiring for the new buildings and computer labs.

Upcoming Events

We have several events occurring as we move towards the end of Term Two. Next week (Week 9), we have our Sports Days. While many of the events will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be some competitions taking place on other days. Gold Awards will begin in Week 9 so please be on the look out for invitations to these.

In Week 10, we will be celebrating Under 8s Week with an activity day and we will also be celebrating the day with a disco that evening.

NAIDOC Week is an important part of the Banksia Beach State School calendar. The week commences with an opening parade on the Monday morning with events occurring throughout the week, including our indigenous walk of fame and dance performance.

Staffing

For the last three weeks of this term, Mrs Ellen Mead will be taking up an Acting Principal role at Peachester State School. Mrs Sandy Hobson will be replacing Mrs Mead for this period. Mrs Jess Keeble will be returning to work in Week 10 after being on maternity leave. She will be working 3 days per week.

Have a great fortnight.

Heidi Haydon.
