Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Traffic Incident Monday Afternoon

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all Students, Staff and Members of the Banksia Beach State School Community for their response to the traffic incident on the Bribie Bridge on Monday afternoon. The incident resulted in late buses and pick-ups for students, long after the normal 3.00pm finish time.

The students did a great job staying calm and waiting patiently for their bus to arrive or to get collected by a parent, older sibling, or family member. It was positive to see the understanding responses from parents as this was well and truly something that was out of our control.

Year 6 Student Leader Investiture

Yesterday morning we held our Year 6 Student Leader Investiture. It was a fantastic ceremony where we recognised the large number of students that were successful in earning leadership positions for 2023. Our School Captains spoke extremely well, proudly delivering their speeches to a very large audience. It was also great to see Banksia Beach State School supported once again by Local Member Ali King and Federal Member Terry Young. We would also like to thank Mr Young for presenting our school with some new flags for the front of our school.

I would like to acknowledge the great work that Mr Wilson has done in coordinating and running the ceremony. Mr Wilson also worked with the School Captains to get their speeches completed and supported the school leaders with run throughs of the ceremony, ensuring they were ready for the big day.

Mr Wilson and I were fortunate enough to attend the Bribie Island State High School Student Investiture Ceremony on Monday morning. Mr Wilson was able to point out quite a few former Banksia students that have taken on leadership positions at the High School. We wish them all the best in their positions for 2023.

NAPLAN Online

In the last newsletter I included some general information for parents around NAPLAN Online for 2023. The major change from previous years is that NAPLAN testing for Years 3 and 5 has been moved from Term 2 to Term 1. The testing window for 2023 starts on Wednesday the 15th of March through to Monday the 27th of March.

Thank you to all staff involved in coordinating, facilitating test sessions, and catching up students that miss tests.

Swimming Carnivals

I look forward to attending the Banksia Beach SS Swimming Carnivals for the first time as Principal next week. The Carnivals are being held over three days:

Monday the 6th March (Year 6)

Tuesday the 7th March (Year 5)

Wednesday the 8th March (Year 4)

Regional Touch Trials

On Monday and Tuesday this week, several of our students attended the Regional Touch Trials at Glasshouse Mountains. Congratulations to Hamish and Ella who were selected in the Regional Team. They will be playing in the State Titles in Cairns in May. Thank you to Mr MacArthur for his continued commitment and dedication in coaching our Banksia Beach SS Touch Teams.

Stuart Bell

Principal
