Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we have been hosting 21 International students from China in some of our upper school classrooms. These students will be here until Aug 28. So far they have been having a great time interacting with our students in the normal class settings, in Robotics lessons with Mr Hobson, and with specialist English lessons with Mr Briggs.
I’d like to again recognise the generosity of our home stay families that welcomed our visitors into their homes. I’d also like to thank Shaye Lawrence and Martin O’Callaghan for their excellent leadership and management of the program international student program.
Our Community Concert was held today in the Hall from 10:30am-11:30, followed by morning tea for all of our guests. Our Patron of the Arts, June Sainty and the Federal Member for Longman, Terry Young, were in attendance. We had 81 members of the Instrumental Band perform under the direction of Martin O’Callaghan and they did an outstanding job.
I’m constantly amazed by the wonderful achievements of our students and they are a credit to the School and their families. They are also the beneficiaries of the outstanding teaching from our Instrumental Music teaching team of Kaitlin McMurtrie, Helen Dan Brittingham and Martin O’Callaghan.
Parent Teacher Interviews
As we approach the end of Term three I’d like to encourage parents and carers to make contact with class teachers to negotiate a time for a parent teacher interview about student progress during the first half of the second semester. Teachers will be looking to have these meetings anytime between now and the end of this term.
Rugby League Results
Our Senior Rugby League team continue on their progression towards hopefully, the State Final of the Foundation Cup. Out of over 600 teams across the State the teams have been whittled down to three in the southern Queensland. Credit for this level of teamwork goes to our talented players and our highly talented coaches of Mr Rob Barroud and Mr Wayne McInnerney.
Mrs Keeble from 3E will commence maternity leave from the end of this week. Mrs Sheppard will take over the class from the start of next week having recently returned from Maternity leave herself. We all wish Mrs Keeble the very best with her soon to be bigger family!
