Hi everyone!
My name is Caitlin, and I’m the new Chaplain at Banksia Beach State School!
I have been a Chappy before in both primary and high school, and I’m so excited to be a part of Team Banksia. I have some very big shoes to fill (thanks Chappy Wendy!) but I’m ready to put my best foot forward!
As a Chappy, my job is to support young people. I’ve walked with kids through grief, separation, struggles with anxiety and depression, friendship and social issues, and family issues. While I’m not a counsellor or a therapist, a lot of young people I’ve worked with have appreciated having their Chappy as a safe and friendly adult to talk to. Being a Chappy also lets me do fun stuff as well, like playing sport and games with kids at lunchtime, running special events like Random Acts of Kindness Day, or rocking out in classrooms with my guitar.
When I’m not Chappy-ing, you might see me out on Pumicestone Passage in an outrigger canoe or otherwise enjoying time outdoors with friends. Somewhere in the middle of all that, I manage to find time to study at university too!
I look forward to seeing you around the school campus.
