Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

This term is certainly disappearing at a very fast rate.  There have also been so many weekend activities and I thank our dedicated staff for all their assistance in ensuring our students achieve the highest possible outcomes.

Congratulations to our Advanced Band, Platinum Band and Big Band who have continued with their very successful year. Over the last fortnight they have won the Primary St Columban’s Champion Band. They then entered the Secondary section and competed against ten private and state Secondary schools.  They came second with our Platinum Band to St Paul’s Bald Hills Wind ensemble and were placed above St Paul’s Concert Band and indeed all other Concert Bands.  They then competed in the Brisbane Music Festival, again against the Secondary Schools as this is the level of music they play and again achieved Gold in both sections.  Congratulations students, parents accompanying staff and of course our amazing Mr O’Callaghan.

We again had fantastic success with our Triathlon teams even though we were missing several key bike riders.  We were 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Open Women’s series. 1st and 2nd in clubs and 1st in Open Men’s.  My favourite part though is always the community BBQ held after the event.  As always it is about celebrating as a community that we value a healthy lifestyle.  Thank you to all staff who participate in any way.

Thank you to Mrs Hope-Smith, Mrs Heard and Mrs Galjaardt who coached our netball team who competed in the Mission Cup.  Once again the girls played very well and sportsmanship was impeccable.

RSL Speaking Competition
Congratulations to our RSL Speaking team of Topaz Earle, Emily Spink, Bella Braid, Olivia D’Rozario, Lani Hollywood, Charli Hunter and Heleyna Thackwray who represented our school at the Competition.  Congratulations to Topaz in first, Olivia in second and Lani in third place for Banksia.  Thank you to Mrs Weaver, Mr McInerney and Mr Davies who accompanied the students.

Spirit of Banksia
On November 25 and 26 we will be holding our Spirit of Banksia celebration.  These nights will showcase all that has been achieved throughout the year in the sporting, academic and performing arts arenas.  Tickets will be free but will be limited.  Tickets will be available from Monday, November 9.  It will be a very special celebration. Tell your friends and family and keep one of these nights free.

I am concerned at the number of students who are not following our dress code. All children must be in black shoes. Just as it is expected students will have our maroon polo, not a green, pink or orange one, it is expected all students would be wearing black shoes. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Another very busy two weeks are coming up. I look forward to celebrating them with you and your child!

Let’s have a great week
Mrs Jacqui King
