Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

Welcome to another busy week for our school.

Last night our Big Band was invited to Parliament House to play for The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier of Queensland.  The Premier attended during a break in Parliamentary proceedings to hear the band play during session times.   She was thrilled to hear them play and couldn’t stop smiling during their performance.  During the parliamentary session break members including the Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism & Major Events, the Speaker, Attorney-General, Health, Transport and other members of the Parliament came to hear the band play.  There were many complimentary comments made by the MPs.  They were very surprised at the standard able to be achieved by a primary school.  A very sincere thanks to Mr Rick Williams MP for organising and sponsoring this special occasion.  Our band members should be very proud of their performance and the way they presented themselves to the parliamentary members.  Each band member was presented with a certificate to signify the occasion.
Last Friday saw our Senior Rugby League Team progress to the semi final of the Metropolitan Cup against Milton State School.  Unfortunately Banksia Beach were defeated in a very close game 18-12.  Milton State School said that the game against Banksia was the hardest and best game they had played in the competition.  Our boys showed great sportsmanship throughout the competition and I am extremely proud of each and every one of you.  Thank you also to Mr McInerney, Mr Blackmore and Mr Barraud for coaching and supporting our boys.

Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students attended a three day camp at Mt Tamborine last week.  All reports were of fabulous behaviour and a great time was had by all.  Thank you so much to class teachers Miss Lang, Mrs Heard, Mrs Eldrett, Mrs McNeill, Miss Bell, Mr Waylett, Mrs Gudenswager, and also our other staff who attended - Mr Briggs, Mrs Funnell, Mr Somerville, Mrs Nicholson,  and our chaplain Mrs Marsh, for accompanying our students ensuring a wonderful opportunity was provided.

Thank you to our wonderful Fete committee led by the amazing Mrs Lisa Newby.  Your energy and enthusiasm is truly amazing.  Thank you to the many positive parents who are supporting and volunteering.  I know I will hear of a very successful outcome.

Book Week
Last week we celebrated Book Week.  It was great to see our staff and children dressing up in their favourite characters.  Mrs Coe and Mrs Carroll certainly were enthusiastic.

Lastly I would like to advise that I will be taking long service leave for the last two weeks of this term.  Mrs Heidi Weaver will be acting principal in my absence.  Mrs Tania Schiefelbein will act as deputy principal for some of this time.

The school term ends on Friday, 16 September.  Term 4 commences on Tuesday 4 October (Monday 3 is a public holiday.)  Please be aware that there is a Pupil Free Day on Monday 17 October

Please have a safe and happy holiday.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Mrs Jacqui King
