Principal's Report

19/08/2015
Dear Parents,

Another very busy but successful fortnight at Banksia Beach State School.

Congratulations to the following teams who have achieved amazing success over the last two weeks.

Advanced Concert Band won the Brisbane City Band Festival and the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.  These competitions were against a large number of Brisbane and Coast Private and State Schools.  Again the standard was exceptional.  Congratulations to Mr Martin O’Callaghan, our Manager of Performing Arts, and these very talented and dedicated students.

We are in the process of offering Instrumental Music to those students achieved A in Maths and English and A for effort.  Instrumental Music is an extracurricular activity offered to students who need an extended program.  These children also have lessons and sectional rehearsal during class time and therefor need to be achieving at a high level to ensure they are able to keep up with their school work. If you believe your child is in this category and has not received a note please see your class teacher.

Senior and Junior Choir both won their section in the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.  Congratulations to our music teacher and both groups conductor Mr David White on exceptional performances.  Congratulations also to Mr Shane White who is the accompanist.  Also congratulations to these very clever students who also give up before school and lunch hours to rehearse.  Good luck to both these groups who will compete in the heats of ChoralFest next week.

Congratulations to our Development Cup boys who are continuing in this knock out competition.  They defeated Norville State School in Gympie to progress to the semi-final and will play Ferny Hills.  Two wins away from playing at Suncorp.  There are 750 teams in this competition so to make the final 8 is simply amazing!

Athletics Team
Congratulations to our Athletics Team who competed in the District Athletics recently.  Our school won the A Division Championship and eleven students made the District team.  A special congratulations to Franco and Georgia who won Age Champion and Franco who broke the 100m record for 12 year old boys.

Prep 2016
This week, if you have registered for Prep in 2016, you will receive a letter from Mrs Weaver outlining the process and Pre Prep program for Term 4.  Please ensure if you are intending to enrol a student for 2016 you register to enable the Pre Prep process to commence.

Book Week
Next week is Book Week.  We will be celebrating this in a number of ways.  On Friday August 28 we will be inviting all P-3 students to dress up as their favourite character from a story.  We will then have a special parade of all of our amazing characters!

Let’s have a great week
Regards
Mrs Jacqui King
