Principal's Report

18/08/2016
Dear Parents,

Welcome to another busy and successful fortnight for our students.  On Thursday 17th August, we had the pleasure of hosting the administration team from Rasmussen State School in Townsville who visited to observe some of the practices that make our school synonymous with high performance and quality outcomes for our students.  They were highly impressed with the quality of our students work, the programs and strategies our staff have in place to ensure all students perform at their best and the positive relationships that the staff have with the students, the community and each other.  Being a part of this community, we know that our values of Pride, Unity, Respect and Excellence live and breathe in our everyday work and interactions.  It is very gratifying to know that those who visit our school see it too!

Last week we participated in the District Athletic Carnival held at Caboolture.  All of our students competed to a very high standard and 16 have qualified to represent Caboolture District at regional level.  This is the highest amount of students we have had qualify at this level and is testament to the hard work of the students and their coaches Mr MacArthur, Mr Hartshorn, Mr Fern and Mr Cooke.  Those who qualified will compete at Sunshine Coast University on the 1st and 2nd of September.

Last Friday also saw our Senior Rugby League Team progress to the next round of the Metropolitan Cup, defeating Undurba State School 42-10.  This was the quarter finals of this competition.  Banksia Beach will now play the semi-final against Milton State School on Friday 19th August.  If Banksia Beach State School defeat Milton, they will progress to the Grand Final at Lang Park.  Go boys!

On the 18th of August our Banksia Beach State School Stage Band will compete in the Primary School Final of Fanfare 2016.  The best 6 primary school bands in Queensland have been selected to compete in this event, with the winner showcasing their work as the opening performance at the Secondary School Fanfare Final on Friday evening 19th August.  We wish our stage band all the best as they showcase their skill and dedication.  Thank you to Mr O’Callaghan, Mrs Dan-Brittingham and those who prepared and accompanied our students for this competition.

We are still looking for some volunteers to work at the Fete on Saturday, September 10th. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. This is a major fundraiser for the P&C and funds raised go directly to the purchase of equipment, resources and materials that enhance our students’ learning and make their school day more enjoyable and productive.

NEiTA Teaching Awards
Congratulations also to Mrs Tania Schiefelbein who has been nominated for an award.

Year 5 Camp
To our happy Year 5 campers who are off to Tamborine Mountain next week enjoy your time and I look forward to hearing all about the activities and the adventures.

Book Week
Next week is Book Week.  We will be celebrating this in a number of ways.  On Friday August 26 we will be inviting all P-3 students to dress up as their favourite character from a story.  We will then have a special parade of all of our amazing characters!

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Regards
Mrs Jacqui King
