Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

This fortnight sees yet another busy and successful time for our students and staff.  This week I am very pleased to announce that our school has been named as a State Finalist in “The Showcase Award for State School of the Year.”  In July we were named as North Coast Region’s State School of the Year and now have been judged by the State Panel to be one of two state finalists.  The other finalist is Mansfield State High School.  We are the only primary school and this is a wonderful honour.  The award recognises an outstanding state school that has sustained measurable change and impressive positive outcomes for students in a number of areas.  Congratulations to our amazing staff for your dedication to ensure all students are able to achieve personal excellence.

A Busy Period for our Music students
Congratulations to our Advanced Band who in the last two weeks have picked up a number of awards against the best private schools in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.

Last week they were named the Best Performance by a Primary School in the Brisbane Band Festival and this week they won the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.  These results only come through hard work and dedication coupled with wonderful teaching.  The Big Band was also named the best Primary Big Band at the Brisbane City Band Festival.

This week we also have the District Athletics and our Choir is competing at the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.  We also begin our Rugby League campaign into the Metropolitan Cup.  I look forward to sharing the results of these high performing groups.  We are fortunate to have such dedicated staff who give up so much of their after school, before school and lunchtimes to ensure your child is able to perform at the highest possible standard.

NEiTA Teaching Awards
Thank you to parents who have taken the time to nominate a teacher for a National Excellence in Teaching Award. Teachers feel very humbled and thankful that you have taken the time to write in most cases very long and thoughtful citations. Teaching can sometimes be a thankless profession and I thank those of you who took the time and effort to thank a teacher. The following teachers have been nominated for an award and they say a very big thank you to the parents who nominated them:  Miss Georgia Clough, Miss Lisa Conroy, Mrs Lisa Heard, Mrs Lisa Ruberry, Mrs Rebecca Scholte and Mr David White.
NAPLAN Reports
This week students in Year 3 and Year 5 will receive their NAPLAN reports.  There have been some very impressive school performances which I will share with you once the data has been confirmed.

Our P&C are busily preparing for our fete on September 10.  We are planning a magic day with lots of community support. However we need you to volunteer some time to make it really successful!  Please complete the volunteer form and return it to the office.  Even if you have an hour on the day that would be wonderful!

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Mrs Jacqui King
