Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
On Friday August 3 at 12:45pm our Year 5 and 6 classes will farewell our eleven wonderful Taiwanese students on a special parade as they come to the end of their study tour at Banksia Beach State School.  The students have stayed with Banksia Beach host families and have been learning first-hand about what it’s like living in Australia. Thank you to all of our host families for generously welcoming these students into their homes.
This Study Tour has been an extremely positive, rich learning experience for everyone involved and I know that our students and our Taiwanese visitors have developed strong friendships and connections as a result of their time together. I would like to sincerely thank Mrs Shaye Lawrence and Miss Kieryn McIlveen for their careful planning and hard work that ensured the success of this initiative.
Prep 2019
We are having a ‘Peek at Prep’ morning on August 15 from 9am to 10:30am. Parents and children enrolled for 2019 should go to the Hall at 9am where they will meet and listen to key staff and students talk about our school and what it means to be in Prep at Banksia Beach State School. Parents and children will then be invited to tour the school with our student leaders and see our Prep classes in action. Following this a morning tea will be enjoyed by all in the hall.
Mrs Weaver, Sector Administrator for Prep and Yr 1 is currently visiting Kindy and day care centres in the local area and sharing information about our Pre Prep Program that will commence the week starting August 27.
Fanfare Final
On August 13 Banksia Beach State School Concert Band will compete in the State Final of the prestigious ‘Fanfare’ Competition, held every two years.
Fanfare is a statewide festival of bands and orchestras highlighting the talents of our state school ensembles. The program offers instrumental ensembles invaluable performance experience and provides the community with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young musicians and teachers.
I would like to congratulate Mr O’Callaghan and all the students for this sensational achievement and wish them the very best.
Junior Eisteddfod
On Wednesday August 8 our Advanced Choir will compete at the Junior Eisteddfod at Matthew Flinders School on the Sunshine Coast. Our Choir is being prepared by our Music Specialist Mr Henson and I wish them every success.
District Sport
The District Athletics Carnivals will be held on August 7 and 8 In Caboolture and over fifty Banksia Beach State School students will be competing. Our students have been well prepared and coached by staff coordinated by Mr MacArthur and I think that they are going to perform very well.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all parents that attended parent teacher interviews last week. It was a pretty big, though productive week for our teachers. I have previously discussed the importance of strong partnerships between teachers and parents for the best possible student outcomes and these meetings definitely enhance these partnerships.
Please be aware that the scheduled interview period is not the only time you can meet with your child’s teacher. You may seek to negotiate a mutually acceptable time with your child’s teacher at any time during the year.
Student Attendance
Our average school attendance during Semester One 2018 leaves plenty of room for improvement. I would dearly love to improve this attendance data as we move further into the school year.
Please remember to let the school know if your child is away. If your child is genuinely ill then they should not be at school. We ask that you do contact the school and inform us if your child is going to be away from school for any reason. There is a 24 hour student absence line that is available on 34085366 where you may leave a message. If parents do not inform the school about student absences the school is then obliged to follow this up with parents.
P&C Meeting
Our next P&C Meeting is scheduled to be held at 5pm on August 14. New members are always welcome so please place this time in your calendar.
