Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 3!

This term we commence with parent and teacher interviews.  This is an important time to discuss your child’s progress and their new goals for Semester 2.  Thank you for taking the time to show your child how much you value their education.

Mr Peter Hartshorn’s Pre Retirement Leave

It is on a sad note (for me) that I announce from August 24 Mr Peter Hartshorn will be taking pre-retirement leave and will officially retire next year.  Peter has been at Banksia firstly as a Year 6 teacher and then as Deputy Principal for nearly 10 years.  We will farewell Mr Hartshorn at a special assembly on August 24 commencing at 2:00pm.  I have been so fortunate to have such a hardworking, dedicated and talented member of my executive leadership team and I will very much miss him.  An Expression of Interest for the Acting Deputy’s position has been advertised state wide and the process will be finalised over the next fortnight.  I look forward to a large number of parents joining us to help celebrate Mr Hartshorn’s career and in particular his time at Banksia.

Car Park

We have issues with our car park!  Please remember it is authorised entrance only to the school grounds to ensure the safety of our students.  We currently have a petition sponsored by our local member Mr Rick Williams and the Principal Petitioner is our School Council Chair Mr Chad Freshwater.  The petition is available on the sign in register in the front office.

Dance Troupe

Congratulations to our Advanced Dance Troupe who participated in DanceLife Unite Eisteddfod on Sunday.  They placed second and qualified for the National Titles.  A wonderful effort by these dedicated students and their teacher Mrs Ross.

Development Cup

Our Rugby League boys were named District Champions after the Gala Days and won the right to play off in the Regional Final against Coolum State School.  The boys played very well but were defeated 18 – 12.  I was so impressed with their wonderful Banksia Spirit and they came back to win the second half.  They now start their Metropolitan run as District Champions as do our 10 Yr olds. Both games are next Friday at Pine Rivers.  Good luck boys.  Congratulations to their coaches Mr McInerney, Mr Blackmore and Mr Barraud.

This term is a busy term with our Pre Prep also commencing.  If you have children commencing Prep next year or know of anyone wishing to enrol.  Please ensure they are enrolled for Pre Prep.

I look forward to the many wonderful events we will celebrate at Banksia with your children.

Let’s Have a Great Week.

Mrs Jacqui King
