Principal's Report

7/06/2017
Dear Parents,

Another busy fortnight has flown by with Banksia’s usual busyness and standards of excellence.

Congratulations to our Advanced Choir who have had a very successful fortnight. They came second in the Queensland Youth Music Awards and last week competed in the Regional Final of Fanfare against the best nine schools in the North Coast Region. The competition was extremely strong and I am very proud to announce that they received one of two “Outstanding Primary Performance” Awards and are named as one of the top ten Primary Choirs in Queensland. As only ten awards will be given out across Queensland. The same adjudicators have been adjudicating all Regional Finals and will conclude in Rockhampton on June 13.  After this date the adjudicators will then choose from the top ten the top 5 to contest the State Final in Brisbane in August. Fingers and toes crossed; they were beautiful!

Rugby League

Two years ago Banksia won the Development State Championship at Suncorp. It was an amazing experience and we are on the road again. The boys won the District Championship and on Friday played brilliantly to win the Sunshine Coast Semi Final against Buderim Mountain. We now play for the honour of being the Sunshine Coast Champions Week one of next term against Coolum State School. Congratulations to the boys and their coaches Mr McInerney, Mr Blackmore and Mr Barraud.

Study Tours

This is the first year Banksia Beach State School has partnered with Education Queensland International to have study tours visit our school. We have two tours one from South Korea and one from china scheduled for July and August. The children who are aged between 11 – 13 require a home stay family. If you are interested in finding out more information please email Mr Nick Morris on nmorr112@eq.edu.au or see him at his stand at the front of the school. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand our global engagement.

Reading and Mathematics Challenges

This week we have the finals of both our Reading and Mats Challenge. Congratulations to our semi-finalists, finalists and medal winners. Mr Roger Bryce, Head of Department from the Bribie Island State High School was our adjudicator for Years 4-6 and again was amazed at the standard as I was!

Come and Try Golf!

Brayden Campbell, the Professional Golfer attached to Bribie Island Golf Club is offering two free sessions for children to come and try golf. See details below and in the flier in this newsletter. As Kayla Stefenak told us on assembly. “Golf is a great game because it’s competitive, but you are only competing against yourself to improve.”

Winter Uniform

As the weather finally gets cool, just a reminder our winter uniform is grey or maroon. We do have school jumpers and now slacks available from our uniform shop, however as long as jumpers and coats are maroon or grey your child is in uniform.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
