Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

This week our Year 3 and 5 students are sitting the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). I was very impressed with all students’ effort and our teachers have prepared the students thoroughly.  Reports will be delivered in September.  Thank you also to Miss McIlveen who has coordinated our school’s participation.

Parent Groups
Thank you to the many parents who have recently volunteered to be part of our different groups.  Our P&C meeting is next week on Wednesday May 17 at 12.00pm.  We are trialling one month during the day, one month at night.  All are very welcome and new members may sign up on the day.  Our Year level representatives meetings are scheduled for May 25 at 12.00pm and again at 6.00pm.  These meetings will all take place in our meeting room in the Resource Centre.

Mother’s Day Stall
Thank you to our P&C for your great stalls for our Mother’s Day.  I hope all Mums and Grandmas were well and truly spoilt by your children and grandchildren.

Cross Country
Congratulations to our Cross Country team who performed brilliantly as a team last week at the District Cross Country.  They were named “A” Grade Champions and 8 of our students made the District team to compete in the Regional Championships.  Considering only 30 students from across the 20 schools made the team, this was an amazing Banksia effort. Congratulations and thank you to Mr Hartshorn and Mr MacArthur who trained the team.  Congratulations to the following students who are in the District Team:

Levi McKeown 5th
Waimarie Takerei 2nd
Liam Coombes 1st
Charli Smith 1st
Scarlett Ware 2nd
Madelief Adam 3rd
Jake Murcutt 5th
Chloe Tunks 4th.

Congratulations and best wishes to the team.

Concert Band
Good luck to our Concert Band who is competing in the Queensland Youth Music Awards on Friday night.  Good luck also to our Choir who will be competing the following week also at QYMA.

Just a reminder that we have a Twitter account @banksiabeachss where all school information is posted. I operate the account and check in several times to answer any queries or repost important information.  It is also where we share the many exciting things that happen during our day.  We often post children’s and the school’s achievements.  It is also where we post information about excursions returning.  As much as we estimate return times in the notes going home, with traffic it can vary.  On Twitter we let you know when the bus is on Bribie Road to ensure you are not left waiting nor are we left waiting at the school with your child.  We are starting to run into our excursions and competitions and I would very much appreciate if you are not on Twitter to either join or monitor our account at the bottom of our website.  The school does not have a Facebook page nor does any of my team post anything about our school to a Facebook page.  This is not somewhere you will receive guaranteed official information.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
