Principal's Report

27/04/2017
Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 2 and thank you for your cooperation with our abrupt end of term.  It is always better to be safety conscious.

This term has started with Banksia’s usual community engagement and support.  Thank you to everyone who braved the early morning start to be at the Dawn Service on ANZAC Day.  Thank you to all the parents who ensured their children were at the Main Service and marched for our school to show the RSL men and women that we value all that they have given for our country.  A special thank you and congratulations to our Marching Band who have given countless lunch times and practices at home time to be part of our Marching Band that leads the service.  This is an honour and one our school takes very seriously.  Final congratulations go to our amazing buglers Sam Godfrey, Oliver Hewitt, Aiden Hendry and Jy Raleigh who performed “The Last Post” and “Reveille” to such a high standard at the Dawn Service, Main Service, our School Service and indeed ABC Sunshine Coast Radio.  Thank you to Mr O’Callaghan, our Manager of Performing Arts, who ensured all was to the standard that the community has come to expect from Banksia Beach.

Congratulations also to all of our Year 4–6 students whose behaviour was exceptional and commented on by all at our school service. The children who led our service did an exceptional job and if you missed Kaia-Paige Simpson’s Maori rendition of the New Zealand anthem, you missed an amazing and very special performance.  I know we set a very high standard for our students, however it is always so pleasing when once again they rise to this standard.

Funds from our Two Pennies Project - As you would be aware we read the story of “Two Pennies” to our students which talked about the rebuilding of a school in Villers-Bretonneux led by a boy in Australia who urged people to donate pennies.  We were originally going to give our coins to a school damaged by the floods, however with the devastating fire at Dalby State School we are giving all funds to them.  If you would like to donate, please send your coin to the office.  I will organise for all funds to be delivered to the school to assist families with the repurchase of resources which were lost in the fire.

Congratulations Jet - We received the wonderful news today that Jet Alsop has made the Australian team to contest the World Junior Motocross Championships in Estonia later this year.  This is definitely a first!  We have had Australian Champions in athletics and we have had students go on to make Australian teams, but never a child whilst at our school to make an Australian team.  We will be organising a fundraiser to help Jet get to Estonia to represent Australia, Queensland and Banksia Beach!

Winter Uniform - Our first cool morning saw everyone reaching for our warmer clothes. Just a reminder all jumpers, stocking, long pants and jackets need to be in school colours of maroon or grey.  Jackets are available from the uniform shop.

This term is a very busy one with sport and music competitions, NAPLAN and amazing learning opportunities.  I look forward to sharing all of these with your student.

Let’s Have a Great Week
