Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

We are rapidly coming to the end of our very busy first term.  Thank you to everyone who has worked so well with our staff to ensure a very happy and successful first term.  I have been so impressed with the engagement of our students and the challenges our staff have set for each and every student. I have enjoyed celebrating all the wonderful “Goal Grabbers” across our school.

School Leader Induction
Recently we celebrated with our school leaders their badge ceremony.  I was so very proud of the standard of behaviour, presentation and speeches that our young leaders showed.  Parents, you must have been so very proud of your young leader as they declared their oath to the leadership of Banksia Beach State School.

“As a student leader of Banksia Beach State School I promise to uphold the values of Pride, Unity Respect and Excellence.
I promise to be an example to others - working to achieve personal excellence, trying new things, listening and acting on feedback and striving to improve.
I promise to be being socially responsible – following the school rules at all times, wearing my uniform with pride and showing respect, fairness and friendship towards others.
I promise to strive to do my best, be my best and look my best at all times.
I promise to set a shining example of what a Banksia Beach State School student should be and give my full commitment to making this school the best school it can be for all students.
This is my oath.”
Bullying No Way!
The seventh National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is on Friday 17 March, 2017!

Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bullying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert).

Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders.

Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.

On Friday we will be reminding all students that at Banksia Beach State School everyday is a no bullying day and all students will be invited to pledge to have a school with no bullying. We will be working collaboratively to make a “Hand of Banksia” wall with positive messages about keeping our school free of bullies. Just a reminder if you do have concerns please contact your class teacher or a member of administration.

Congratulations to all families, students and community members who participated in the Triathlon.  After the event we always celebrate with a community BBQ.  I watched the students having a great time on the playground, laughing, positively interacting with each other, not an electronic devise to be found.  I watched our community enjoy each other’s company and interact as a positive and supportive group.  I listened to everyone challenging each other to set new goals and to make progress during the off season and I thought this is an amazing positive element to our Banksia community.  Four years ago, in the off season I set my self the goal of riding in the Teams event for Banksia.  I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was around 13.  I enlisted my bike buddies Mr & Mrs Hobson, Mrs Weaver and Mrs Hogan and over a period of 6 months Mrs Hobson and I progressed on to road bikes and we have successfully competed in triathlons with our students over the last four years.  My message is simple - if I can do it anyone can.  I now enjoy riding each weekend setting goals and enjoy seeing the smiles of all the students as we pass the timer on knowing we have all done our best.  Think about getting involved in this community and enjoy the health and social benefits this can bring.

Let’s Have a Great week.
Mrs Jacqui King
