Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

We have certainly had a very busy two weeks since I last wrote to you.  Thank you to the many parents who were able to make the time to attend our Parent/Teacher evenings.  It was lovely to see some familiar faces and to also meet some new faces.  There are many ways to keep in touch with our school and your class.  One of our main and instant ways of communicating is through Twitter.  Our account is @banksiabeachss and is updated and managed by me regularly.  It is also accessible on our website.  The school does not have a Facebook page and anyone posting anything on any Facebook page about our school has no approval from me and the information is not credible.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Saturday Kids Triathlon last weekend.  Our Triathlon club continues to grow in strength and numbers.  Congratulations and thanks to all students, parents, community members and staff who competed for our school on Sunday in difficult conditions.  We had a record 27 teams and again we were very successful  1st, 2nd and 3rd in Clubs, 1st and 2nd in Open Women and 2nd in mixed.  Thanks also to everyone who stayed around for the BBQ, it’s always a great community event.  Well done to Mr Fern for this wonderful initiative.  The next one is in two weeks.  Get involved and help our community celebrate health and fitness.

We were also very excited to host Stephanie Gilmore on Tuesday to launch the Weet Bix Kids Tryathalon and she was very generous with her time and signature.  It was a great thrill for our Triathlon students to meet her and many a photo was taken and shared.  We also have some great autographed hats, shirts and even a surfboard which we will auction later in the year.
Inquiry Room
We are very excited that after air conditioning all learning spaces the P&C moved on to resourcing another area that will be utilised by all students. We have converted our music room from last year into an Inquiry Based Learning Centre where all students will have the opportunity to explore robotics and open ended problem solving. This is a very exciting room and teachers are looking forward to engaging with all of these new resources.

P&C Meeting
Next Tuesday February 21 we will be holding our first P&C meeting of the year in our meeting room which is located at the back of our library. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in decision making to be updated on our priorities and to positively contribute to our school. I look forward to seeing a large number of parents who wish to be part of our positive and dynamic P&C.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
