Principal's Report

1/02/2017
Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another amazing Banksia year!  I am so impressed with how engaged our students have been from day 1.  I am also so very impressed with the way all parents have our students presented.  Just a reminder formal days are Tuesday Year 4 – 6, Wednesday Prep-Year1 and Thursday Year 2-3.  I thank you for your help in achieving one of our do be’s – Look your best.

We are so fortunate in this very hot weather to have all learning spaces air conditioned.  Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our fund raising over the last five years.  It is a very difficult thing to achieve and we are very fortunate to have so many generous sponsors.

We are looking forward to a great year working together as we continue to look after our students and help them to learn as much as possible. We have an amazing school, a great staff, supportive parents and wonderful children.  Our challenge is to work together to live out our values; Pride, Unity, Respect and Excellence.

Welcome to our new staff
We are so very fortunate to have attracted more wonderful teachers to the 2016 “State School of the Year”.  In Year 6 Mrs Tamara Smart, Mr Jay Wilson and Mrs Jacqui Henson join our team. In Year 5 Mr Ben Hawthorne joins our team. In Year 4 Mrs Verity Stewart joins our team and Mr Michael Henson joins our Performing Arts team as our music teacher.  I have already had so many positive comments about these new and enthusiastic Team Banksia members and I know they will all value add to our school.

Parent Teacher Evenings
Every year we invite parents to a short Parent/ Teacher information session. This year we will continue this meeting. In week 3 we will be holding the following sessions.
Tuesday February 7 4.30pm Prep, 5.00pm Year 1, 5.30pm Year 2, 6.00pm Year 3
Wednesday February 8 4.30pm Year 4, 5.00pm Year 5, 5.30pm Year 6

All meetings commence in the hall and Preps will have a welcome BBQ in the large covered area near the hall after the meeting. These meetings are general information sharing sessions not an individual meeting about your child. It is however one of the most important things you can do to show your child you value his/her school.

Parents and Citizens Association
Every year a small but hard working group of parents run our P&C. As mentioned earlier they raise valuable funds which are spent on school priorities. This year we will be outfitting our inquiry centre so that all students can have access to coding, robotics and an emphasis is placed on inquiry based learning.  We need parents to volunteer to be part of this active committee to ensure that these members work load is not too onerous. Please see me if you would like to be more heavily involved in the school or with a couple of friends take on a small area of responsibility.

Just a reminder my door is always open.  My management team of Mrs Heidi Weaver Prep – Year 1, Miss Kieryn McIlveen Year2-3, Mr Peter Hartshorn Year4-5 and Mr Martin O’Callaghan, Performing Arts are here to ensure your concerns and queries are addressed and answered.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Regards
Mrs Jacqui King
