PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Parents,

Thank you to the many parents who attended our Gold Assemblies.  I believe so strongly in affirming appropriate behaviour and your presence at these assemblies assist our school in achieving this goal.  Congratulations to our wonderful students who achieved their Gold Award.

Musical

Due to a recent illness in my family I have been unable to supervise Sunday rehearsals and our musical has been delayed.  We will now be performing our musical “Danger Kids” on November 4 and 5.  We look forward to another fantastic celebration for Banksia Beach.

NAPLAN

As you may be aware Education Queensland has undertaken to publish school data for parents to access.  This week the NAPLAN for Year 3, 5, 7 Test data has been released and is now available for parents to view on the Queensland Studies
Authority Website: http://www.qsa.qld.edu.au/downloads/about/qsa_s
tats_naplan_09_outcomes.pdf

Individual reports on student achievement in these tests have not yet been published.  These reports will be sent home when they become available.

Congratulations to all staff who were involved in preparing our students.  Our school performed very well with significant gains across all year levels.  In Reading in Yr 3 98% of our students were above the National Bench mark, Yr 5 91% and Yr 7 96%. In Numeracy 98 % of Year 3 students were above the National Benchmark, 96% of Yr 5 students and 96% of Yr 7 students.

We are very fortunate at Banksia Beach we have fabulous committed and dedicated teachers and our students are also very special.

Gold Certificates

Congratulations to all students who received a Gold Certificate this week.  It is one of my greatest professional joys to endorse superb student behaviour.

Skateboards, Scooters and Ripsticks

Please note that scooters, skateboards and ripsticks are banned at school and students are not to bring them to school. This is a very dangerous mode of travel at our peak drop off and pick up times.

Term 4

Term 4 is a huge term with many opportunities for your child to shine. Our Band and string ensemble are competing in the Brisbane Band Festival. Our Competition Choir is competing in the Queensland Music Festival and our Touch Football teams will be competing in the Queensland All School; Touch Championships.

Carols by Torchlight will again be a highlight and we also hold our very special Year 7 Graduation.

School leaders for 2010 will be selected and our hall and junior library will continue to be constructed.

Help us keep our school secure these holidays

With the holidays fast approaching, please look out for after-hours crime in our school.

If you see anything suspicious, please phone the School Watch number – 13 17 88.

The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service

Return to school - Term 4

After the September holidays, school resumes on Monday 5th October.  All staff will take part in the professional development day on Monday, 19th October and children are not required to attend on this day.

Thank you for your support during this term and I look forward to celebrating Term 4 with you.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Regards
Mrs Jacqui King

Newsflash

BIKE HELMETS

Students are reminded that they needed to be wearing bike helmets to and from school each day. We have noticed some students who are not following this rule and ask that parents/students be vigilant in the wearing of helmets.
