PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to term 3!

What an exciting start we had with our two special sport’s days.  Thank you to our grounds staff for preparing the oval, our teaching and non teaching staff for supervising all areas, our canteen volunteers for our special lunches, our parents for joining in and supporting all students and of course our wonderful Mr MacArthur for organising everything so beautifully.

These days are a great celebration for our community.  It is always exciting to celebrate with our winning champions (see results later in this newsletter) however I enjoy seeing the sheer joy children receive for doing their best and receiving a ribbon.

Education Tax Refund – Don't forget to claim
How do I claim the Education Tax Refund?
·        In your tax return.
·        If you don't lodge a tax return, claim on a separate form or over the phone.
·        If you use a tax agent, make sure you ask them to claim for you.

The Education Tax Refund lets you claim up to 50 per cent of eligible education expenses for school children.  If you are eligible, you can get back up to $375 for each primary student and up to $750 for each secondary student.  You can claim things like text books, stationery and even internet costs.  Remember, you need to keep all receipts for expenses you claim.  If you receive Family Tax Benefit Part A for a child at primary or secondary school, you will be eligible.  Some other people are eligible too.  To find out more about this and other information such as what you can and can't claim go to www.australia.gov.au/educationtaxrefund or call the Tax Office.

Human Swine Influenza
Please continue to keep your child at home if they are sick - particularly with flu-like symptoms. We are sending children home who are sent to the office with flu-like symptoms. Queensland Health will no longer undertake large scale closures of schools where cases of swine flu are identified;  nor is it now a reportable disease.

While restrictions are being eased, it is important to stay vigilant, practise good hygiene and seek medical advice if children are showing the symptoms of Human Swine Influenza. The symptoms of Human Swine Influenza are similar to those of seasonal influenza, including fever, cough, sore throat, runny or blocked nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Whooping Cough
We have a reported case of Whooping Cough in the school. Whooping Cough (sometimes called pertussis) is a highly contagious respiratory infection. It can be a very serious illness in un-immunised infants and young children, but even in older children and adults. Parents of un-immunised students are advised to seek advice from their medical practitioners.

Report Cards
Report cards were distributed at the end of last semester.  Parent/Teacher interview slips were also issued earlier this week.  I encourage you to take the opportunity to meet with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss his/her progress in more detail.

I look forward to celebrating the many exciting opportunities with you this term.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Regards
Jacqui King
Principal
