PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Parents,

This week concludes our very successful performances of concert band and choir.

Queensland Youth Music Awards

Last week our Competition Choir travelled to Brisbane to compete in the Queensland Youth Music Awards Final for Senior Choirs.

Private and state schools from across South East Queensland had contested heats over two weeks to decide on the final four schools.

The standard of the final was incredibly high with only five points separating the top three schools. Our Senior Choir was awarded first place and are now the owners of the Leslie Hansen Memorial Trophy for Queensland Senior Choirs.  The prize consists of a trophy, a monetary award and a recording opportunity.  Later this year the choir will be invited to perform two Christmas songs which will be professionally recorded and played on local Brisbane radio.

The adjudicators were very impressed with the choir commenting positively on the preparation and discipline of the ensemble.  The adjudicator also commented on the children’s excellent diction and accomplished part singing.  Congratulations to Mr David White conductor, Ms Grace Liang accompanist, our many families who travelled to Brisbane to support the choir, Miss Conroy, Mr Carter, Mrs Weaver and Mrs Scheifelbein who gave up their Friday night and of course our beautiful, talented and superb students.

Report Cards

On Thursday 25 June you will receive your student’s Semester 1 Report Card.  Please be aware we have applied very tight moderation processes to ensure the grading your child receives in each area is an accurate rating according to state wide benchmarks.  Please also remember a C is the acceptable performance level for your student.

Teachers will be offering interview times after the holidays.
Athletics Carnivals

Two of my favourite days of the year will be occurring next week.  On Tuesday 23 June we will be holding the Senior Sports Carnival and on Wednesday June 24, Junior Sports Carnival.  I look forward to sharing your child’s special moment with you.  We look forward to a large audience of parents supporting our students.

Building Education Revolution

I am very pleased to be able to announce to our community that we have two very exciting projects approved for this year.  We have a project funded under the Federal Government’s National School Pride which is currently occurring.  This project will enable all Year 7 rooms to be upgraded, fitted with smart boards and innovative furniture.

The second project is again sponsored by the Federal Government and includes $2.75 million for a performance hall and $250 000 for a junior library.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to receive fantastic facilities and we will be very excited when we hold our first performance in our very own hall.  It will mean disruptions whilst the building projects are occurring, however we will all remain positively focussed on the long term goal.

Thank you to all staff, students and parents for a fantastic term.  This term we have seen many highlights and high achievements.  Once again I am very proud to be the principal of our wonderful school.

As this is my last newsletter for this term, may I wish everyone a very happy and relaxing holiday?

Let’s Have a Great Week.
Regards
Mrs Jacqui King
Principal

Newsflash

BIKE HELMETS

Students are reminded that they needed to be wearing bike helmets to and from school each day. We have noticed some students who are not following this rule and ask that parents/students be vigilant in the wearing of helmets.
