PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

E-mail Print PDF

I know I say it often, but we are so fortunate at our school, to have so much to celebrate.

This fortnight we again have excelled in many diverse areas.

Queensland Youth Music Awards

Our Competition Choir conducted by Mr White and accompanied by Miss Liang competed in the third heat of the Queensland Youth Music Awards. They were against private and state schools from Brisbane and surrounding areas. I am very pleased and proud to announce that the students performed beautifully and have won a place in the final. This places them in the top four schools of all who competed in the heats. I am looking forward to accompanying the students on Friday night.

Showcase Awards for Excellence

On Tuesday night our fantastic Concert Band performed for all our Region’s leaders at the Showcase Awards for Excellence.   The band was the only primary school band invited to perform with four high school bands. Again a wonderful achievement and a definite, “they’re mine,” moment for me.

Congratulations Mr Hooper and thank you to Mrs Hooper who manages all our uniforms and ensures students are so beautifully dressed.

Sunshine Coast South District Mathematics Tournament

We were well represented at this tournament with four teams from Year 6 and 7. All students participated very well and did the “Do Be’s.”

We achieved once again some outstanding results against 33 of the district’s private and state schools

We won the tournament for the second year running.

The tournament consists of teams of 5 students who participate in a team event and then a relay event. Our Team One was tied for first after the team event and won it in a tie break. The relay event was a different story with our team totally dominating the event and we eventually won the tournament by 8 points.

As part of Banksia Beach State School’s gifted and talented program, identified students in Years 5- 7 work in extension maths classes twice a week with retired scientist Mr Ian Beaumont.

We are so fortunate at Banksia Beach to have our very talented teachers, our wonderful Mr Beaumont and of course our very clever students.
The team members were Heather Ngata, Charlton Lansley, James Eaglesham, Jack Davidson and Stewart Riesenweber.

Next year also looks good as a Year 6 team, entered for the experience, came third in the relay event and finished 8th overall.

Shopping Centre Visit

Unfortunately the weather forecast has caused us to postpone our visit to Bribie Harbour Shopping Centre scheduled for Thursday at 10.00am. We will still be playing at Woolworths at 12.00pm.

Let’s Have a Great Week!
Regards
Jacqui King,
Principal

Newsflash

PATIENCE PLEASE

While construction work is being carried out at school, can we please ask parents to please use the paths when moving about the school. Due to safety concerns and to help with keeping our grounds and gardens looking beautiful, please avoid taking shortcuts over chain and Kopper log fences. Many thanks for your understanding.
