Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term Two. The Calendar for this term is absolutely packed and I look forward to sharing many exciting moments with you and your child. I would especially like to welcome our sixteen new students and their families. We know you will very soon feel a part of our great community.
ANZAC Day Service
This year as a school we will commemorate ANZAC Day on April 24 with a special school service led by our School Captains. This is always a very moving service with many visitors to our school. As previously advised the ceremony will commence at 12:00pm. Students in Year 6 and 7 are encouraged to wear their formal uniform as a mark of respect to our special guests and to demonstrate pride in our school. Band students will be in band uniform; this is provided to students as part of their $20 instrumental music levy.
We will also be participating in the Island service and I would ask all parents to consider sending their students to this service. We march as a school in full formal uniform and maroon hats. Last year we had over 200 students march for our school, this was a wonderful showing and I was exceptionally proud of our beautiful school. It is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to the many returned service men and women who reside on our Island and to reinforce the message that we will not forget their efforts on our behalf.
Please assemble on Saturday, April 25 at 8:15am at the Apex Park adjacent to the Bongaree Bowls Club. The service lasts for approximately one hour and the children receive refreshments afterwards. Please ensure children are in full formal uniform with maroon broad brimmed hats and a water bottle. I look forward to another fantastic showing of Banksia Beach students.
Jamie Fairey Aspiring to Excellence Scholarship
This week we held a special ceremony to award the “Jamie Fairey Aspiring to Excellence Scholarship.” This scholarship is awarded each year as one way in which we remember Jamie Fairey. Jamie was a very special little girl who loved athletics, nippers, dancing and performing. Jamie was tragically killed in a marine accident on September 16, 2007.
The scholarship is sponsored by local businesses and is awarded each year to a student or students who aspire to achieve excellence in their chosen area. This year we have two recipients and we congratulate Jade Carnall and Jessica Spink and we look forward to hearing how this scholarship has helped them achieve their goals.
Car Park
Once again at the start of the term I would like to remind parents of the following car park requests:
- Please reverse park.
- Continue on through the car park to find a park rather than taking the first available park.
- Travel slowly; our children sometimes don’t.
- Do not park in the pick up drop off area.
- Admittance to the school grounds is only allowable if you have a school issued disabled permit.
I know this can be an area of frustration. The car park at 3:10pm is empty. A strategy may be to delay your pick up time slightly.
Uniform
Just a reminder that our winter jackets are now available from our uniform shop. All jumpers and jackets need to be grey or maroon to comply with our approved uniform code.
Let’s Have a Great Week!
Regards
Jacqui King
Principal
