PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Parents,

This newsletter is the last one for Term 1 and I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for a wonderful term. Our students have very quickly settled into their new routines, displaying great behaviour, delightful manners and a desire to learn new things. Thank you to our staff for ensuring we provide a safe and supportive environment for all students to grow. Thank you to our parents for your support enabling Banksia Beach to be a great school.

Swimming Carnivals
On Wednesday we had an exciting day for all Year 4 and 5 students at our annual swimming carnival. Age champions will be announced on next Tuesday’s assembly. Unfortunately we have had to postpone the Year 6/7 swimming carnival due to heavy rain. This carnival has now been scheduled for Term 2 Week 2, April 30. I understand many parents organise to take this day off to watch their children compete. Unfortunately the weather made the decision for us.

ANZAC Day Ceremonies
Banksia Beach State School will commemorate ANZAC Day with our own special ceremony on Friday, April 24.  This ceremony is led by our school captains and is always beautifully presented.  Our Concert Band will perform as will our Competition Choir.  This year we have a special edition to our ceremony.  Liam Hawkins, one of our Year 6 students, who has been learning the trumpet for two years with Mr Hooper, will play “The Last Post.”  Thank you Liam for the enormous effort you have made to enable this to happen.  Only Year 6 and 7 students are able to attend due to space restrictions.  Hopefully next year with our hall built, we will be able to invite all of our middle and upper primary.

On Saturday April 25 we will participate in the Bribie Island Sub Branch of the RSL Commemorative ceremony.  Last year we were proudly represented by over 220 students.  This was a wonderful endorsement for our school and a very special thank you message to all the members of the RSL.  The RSL are a very important part of the Bribie Island community and it is vital as a group we acknowledge their significant contribution to our lifestyle.  I would again like to say we had over 200 students attend.  Please have all children meet me at 8.15am on Saturday April 25 in Apex Park in formal uniform with maroon broad brimmed hat. Children receive a drink and a packet of chips at the end of the ceremony.

We are very proud of our image. Please see me if you are having difficulties providing our uniform for your student.

Gold Assemblies
Gold Assemblies will be held next week.  This is a significant achievement for all our students and I always enjoy seeing the vibrant smiles when they receive acknowledgement for a job well done.  As all students know the most important attribute for a student at Banksia Beach is good behaviour all other achievements come second. Please join with me in celebrating your child’s achievement at the following times:

Monday               10.30am Prep
       12.45pm Year 2
       2.30pm Year 1

Tuesday              9.00am Year 3

Wednesday         10.30am Year 4
       12.45pm Year 5

Thursday             10.30am Year 6
       12.45pm Year 7

Head Lice

Every school every year struggles with incidences of head lice. Can I ask every parent to make this weekend head lice weekend? The only way to eradicate head lice is for everyone to be treated at the same time. Please check your child’s hair for head lice. If you find lice please treat your child with preparations from the chemist or with thick conditioner which works just as effectively. If we all make a concentrated effort we can make a difference.

Uniforms
Thank you for ensuring all students are well dressed. Just a few reminders to ensure all students are correctly dressed.

·     Formal uniform day is Tuesday for Years 4–7 and Wednesday for Prep–Year 3.
·     Black shoes with black shoelaces are also required for every year level every day.
·     Leggings are not part of our uniform.
·     Our new maroon jackets are now available at the uniform shop. Only maroon or grey jumpers are permitted.

May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy break and I look forward to the many events that we will celebrate together next term.

I know I am very fortunate to be Principal of this great school.

Regards
Jacqui King
Principal

Newsflash

BIKE HELMETS

Students are reminded that they needed to be wearing bike helmets to and from school each day. We have noticed some students who are not following this rule and ask that parents/students be vigilant in the wearing of helmets.
