In 2006 Banksia Beach trialled a new ICT (Information Communication Technology) Enhanced Learning Environment.
This involved setting up one of the year 7 classrooms to enhance the links between visual ICTs and improved student learning outcomes.
Rather than locating computers at the back of the room in a traditional manner, this classroom architecture includes specialised furniture to allow computers to be integrated into group desks.
The room is also equipped with an interactive whiteboard to support student and staff ICT integration.
In terms of computer numbers, this class has only three additional computers to the remaining year 7 classes.
To a large degree, this room in shared with the year 7 class situated in the room next door. Those year 7 students not involved in the ICT enhanced Learning Environment are involved in a wireless laptop program (established in 2007).

The classroom teacher managing this classroom (Mr David Hobson) has undergone additional training to support the use of ICTs within this classroom environment.

Rob Ruberry.
(Banksia Beach State School ICT Coordinator).
